Fandom Matters: A Reply

So, I’m participating in the Zero to Hero Challenge and the task for day 12 is to “write a post that builds on one of the comments you left yesterday.” I’ve decided to talk more about the blog post from Good and Faithful Service titled Fandom Matters

In her post, Faith talks about certain fandoms she holds close to her heart. A few of the ones she listed were these with “a quote from the show that sums up why [she] love[s] them.

Sherlock: ‘Exactly. He’s different. Why would he mind? Why would anyone mind?’

Supernatural: Family is all we have in the end, and you protect your family with your life.

Doctor Who: ‘In 900 years of time and space, I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important before.’

So why do we hold these fandoms so close to our hearts? We know that our hearts will be broken into a million tiny pieces once something happens to the person/object/story of our fandom. So, I ask why?!

Because we are a passionate group of people. That’s why! We take these characters and objects and story lines and we insert them into our souls. They then become a part of us. We eat, drink, breathe, sleep, and live our fandoms. They aren’t simply another show or story to us. They are us. We connect with these fictitious characters and we care for them as if they were our own family. Our own flesh and blood. They become our mothers and fathers, our sisters and brothers, our husbands and wives.

Sure, some don’t understand why we love our fandoms or look at us and think that we are crazy/nerdy/geeky people. But, if they take a look at themselves and apply what a fandom is to what they like, they will see that they are just as crazy as we are.

In my opinion, everyone is part of a fandom.

to sports, cars, and hunting.

They are all fandoms and we belong to one or more whether we want to or not.

**Stop by Faith’s blog and check out what she has to say, because it’s not just all about fandoms**
